I visited with you last August 9, 2009 at the Church in Douglas and appreciated the information you gave me.
Our group of 8 Karrens had a wonderful time on the Isle of Man and in Ireland. We are always looking for information on Thomas Karren born 1 May 1810 on the Isle of Man. He moved to Liverpool, joined the Church and immigrated to Utah.

I served as a missionary from October 1989 to February 1990. It was a highlight of my mission. I was thrilled to read about the growth of the church there and hope to return some day.

My great-grandfather's birth place was the Isle of Man. I am interested in visiting and am pleased to see an active LDS church is present on the Island. The family name is Kennish.

As a convert to the church I have begun to research my family lines. I have Cannell and Curphey ancestors. I don't know if any are related to any early Church members. Any information would be appreciated. I've only been able to find my grandfather Thomas Arthur Cannell from Andreas died in 1962 at 61 and my grandmother Maud Curphey.

Hello to everyone; I served in the England Manchester Mission from 1999-2001. I never actually had the priviledge of serving in the Douglas Ward but I am in the process of compiling a complete photgraphic record of every Church meetinghouse in the UK and Ireland based on the google earth platform. I am currently lacking a picture of the Douglas Ward meetinghouse and would very much appreciate a good quality image of the chapel along with permission to use that image. Nothing like this has been attempted yet and I would very much appreciate any help that the saints on the Isle of Man could offer.
Many thanks and God bless.

I am a descendant of Thomas Karren on my mother's paternal side. Long ago a book of the Karrens was published, but at that time only the Mormon members of the family received them. I have limited resources for research and would like any info you have on the Karren line. Thank you!

My line is Charles Caesar Cowley and Ann Killip. Nice histories but there appears to be more to the story than what is here based on some of the other histories I've read. So much of what is here on my line is just facts. Little is mentioned about the conversion of Ann and Charles, the selling of their farm, the paying of the passage of the Saints on the Swanson and the holding true to the end. Its more than just the facts its their faith. Thanks for such a good reference site.

Great to read your summary history of the LDS Church on the Isle of Man and reconnect with some names I came to know. I served on the island for six months in 1977-78 as part of the Manchester Mission. My district leader was Paul Cannon of Salt Lake City (a George Cannon decedent). There were four Elders on the Island at that time, Paul Cannon, Ralph Oglvie and Michael Sneed and myself. An older couple from Arizona, the Holmes were just leaving when we all arrived. The Island had recently been assigned to the new Manchester Mission. It have fond memories of the island and the ward. But no mention of the "Curse of the Mormons" and John Taylor's rather unpleasant reception in Castleton?

Wow stumbled across this as I was looking for info on the area my son is serving in in Limerick Ireland, saw the name Peter Moore and of course it caught my eye. My father Myron Moore's father William Moore, son of William Moore all came from Douglas county so I have been told but I am ignorant on searching this information thought Peter might be from the area and perhaps a help. Please forward my information to him so we can compare, thank you so much. DR Moore

Although the line(s) of my great grandmother do not involve conversion to the LDS faith on the Isle of Man, she always mantained that her lineage was from the House of Stanley on the Isle of Man. Her name is Sarah Stanley (1824) dau. of Thomas Stanley (1786) son of Thomas Stanley (1760). These three generations of Stanleys centered in Glocester and Worcester shires in England. If someone has informationthat may involve these names or a link to the Stanleys of the Isle of Man, please contact me.
