My great-grandmother was Margaret Kewley. She, along with her parents James and Ann Kewley and her brothers Robert and Thomas emigrated on the Horizon as part of the Mrtin Handcart Company. I have been gathering information and writing about them for a number of years. I would be interested in talking to anyone with similar interests.

Nice site. I'm from the line of Edward Callister. I once ran into to some Shimmins in Provo, UT (also in my line) who indicated they were from the Isle of Man. The man I talked to indicated that they were a Jewish line.
The little research I've done indicates that there are no records of Jews on the Isle of Man. Has anyone found anything different.
Also, because Callister, comes from the Gaelic Ollister, meaning Alexander, I've tried to see if there is a connection to any of the famous Alexander Clans descending from Somerled. One possibility is through the McDonald clan line (there is a MacAllester Clan in Kyntre). The other is their arch rivals, from Ergadia or Arygle, who initially opposed the English, but then sided with Edward II and III against The Bruce (after he murdered a family relation in a church) and were driven from England in about 1309.
Does anyone know anything about this? Given the number of Edwards and Johns in my Manx Callister line, I'm guess that if there is a link to the "dispossesed" Scottish clan, it is to the Ergardia or Argyle clan?
Thanks.

I am a direct descendant of William "Edward" Kelly and his second wife, Kirsten Pedersen (Pedersdatter). I noticed that you have the year of emigration for my Kellys (from the IOM to Nauvoo) as 1842/1844. The Kelly family emigrated 5 Mar 1844 on the Glasgow. Please correct your website. I have spent the past 35 years researching my Kellys (with several others) and I would be happy to share all Kelly info with anyone who is interested. Great website. Thanks for putting the info online.

I found the website as a result of the Administrator dropping me a note about the site. I found the website most intruiging and it directly answered a question I had regarding Mormon history in the Isle of Man. Thanks!
My 4th great grandparents, Matthias Cowley & Ann QUAYLE, are my Manx connections. They and their children emigrated to the United States in 1841. I descend through their daughter, Elizabeth Jane COWLEY, who was only 11 years old at the time. I would be thrilled to corroborate with anyone else who are related to this family.

Am a descendant of William Edward Cowley who emigrated to Northern Ohio, Warrensville, Ohio in the early middle 1800's and became a farmer. From this site many others emigrated with him at the same time. This is a terrific site and has enough material for me and my wife to look at for a long time.
